Waverly 3

In this blog, I thought we would touch on the topic of how money talks. There are multiple instances through out his reading that we completed where you can see that money has an influence on the decisions that are made. For example, on page 168, Waverly talks about how it is "difficult and dangerous to detain him unless they can produce some proper authority." Waverly knows about what he has done but does not seem phased with the possible outcome of it all. He seems as though his actions can be missed because of the way he carries himself when he is around others. He has painted a very innocent picture of himself and some people choose to believe it.

In todays society, this is common in different fashions. For example, it is common in high school sports that if your family has money or if they are well-known in the community, they often get to play more than the others even if they have a lot of talent in that perspective sport. In a more recent fashion, I'm sure we have all heard of the Murdaugh Murders. These murders that took place in South Carolina were carried out by Alex Murdaugh, a well-known wealthy man who came from a lawyer background. People were often overlooking what was right in front of them because of the image that this family had painted for the community around them.

Overall, I am really enjoying this book. Although there are some things that I do not understand and have to look up but I am enjoying the history of the Scottish while touching base on the political issues within the 19th century.
